X-type vortex and its effect on beam shaping

In this article we propose a new type of optical vortex, the X-type vortex. This vortex inherits and develops conventional noncanonical i.e., it no longer has constant phase gradient around center, while intensity keeps invariant azimuthally. The strongly focusing properties its effect on beam shaping in three-dimensional (3D) fields are analyzed. interesting phenomena, which cannot be seen canonical vortices, observed, for instance 'switch effect' shows that pattern can switch from one transverse axis to another focal plane by controlling parameter. It is shown adjusting field have marvelous patterns, doughnut shape shapes with different lobes, along propagation direction will form twisting 3D space controllable rotation location. physical mechanisms underlying rule also discussed, generally say orbital angular momentum, polarization 'nongeneric' characteristic contribute differently fields. may supply freedom tailoring fields, our work pave way exploration vortices their applications.
